Pashto Poetry

Pashto poetry (Pashto: پښتو شاعري) reflects the cultural and spiritual essence of the Pashtun people, rooted in the ancient oral tradition of Tappa and spanning over 5,000 years. The 7th-century poet Amir Kror Suri laid its foundation, followed by figures like Pir Roshan in the 16th century, who introduced Sufi themes, and Akhund Darweza, who enriched religious literature.

Poets like Khushal Khan Khattak and Rahman Baba shaped its golden era with themes of unity and spirituality. Modern poets, including Khan Abdul Ghani Khan, blend art and nationalism. Pashto poetry continues to express love, sorrow, and reflection, inspiring Pashtuns worldwide.
